Having worked in most major industries, across Government, Health, Education, Retail, Finance, Manufacturing and Defence, over the last 20 years of Project and Programme delivery I have come to realise the importance of information, people and above all ''Knowledge" of a project to ensure successful delivery.

I have delivered projects in IT and business change, using traditional and agile methodologies aligned to PRINCE, PMI and APM. In all cases, I understand that people are at the centre of successful delivery and because we are all human, what we know, how we communicate, and how we interpret the information available to us is what shapes our decisions, and the outcomes and impacts that can be delivered.

• We need to know what it is we want to achieve with the Project.

• We need to know the people, and understand and appreciate each other to work as a successful team.

• We need to know our stakeholders, what information they need and what their interests are in the project

• We need to know the detail; what are the requirements? what are the benefits? how does the solution deliver each requirement / benefit? what work do we need to do to deliver the solution? what skills do we need to do the work, and how long do we think it will take? what is uncertain, or might happen or is currently blocking our progress?

• We need to know how we are doing; what data and metrics to capture? what are our performance indicators? how do we measure progress for example in features and sprints delivered, velocity, earned value or milestone delivery?

So many questions.

Successful projects bring all this knowledge together to inform the people delivering the project, and their stakeholders, and to help them deliver successfully in an uncertain world; and so, out of my experience, Project Knowledge was born.
